Six Local Food Spots to Help Satisfy Any Craving

There is a plethora of amazing local food gems hidden in Edmonton and we want to share a few of ours with you.

  1. Hap’s Hungry House |Address: 16060 Stony Plain Rd NW| Phone: (780) 483-2288|

If you are looking for a speedy but delicious breakfast, then I wholeheartedly recommend Hap’s Hungry House. They have some of the best hollandaise in the city for all you eggs benedict lovers. Hap’s was recently featured in Avenue magazine and it’s a well-deserved shout out. They have a great selection of food, a variety if options and are vegetarian-friendly. The service is wonderful, you’re seated quickly and even though the place is always full there is never a line. Plus, the coffee is never-ending and the farmhouse décor will make you feel like you’re vacationing in the country.

      2.   Hathaway’s Diner |Address: 13225 132 St NW| Phone: (780) 488-5989|

Also featured in Avenue, Hathaway’s diner has some major Twin Peak vibes—an excellent selection of irresistible homemade pies to go with your cup of coffee (or tea or water), and all of it at an affordable price. While this place doesn’t seem like much from the outside, the inside is cozy and always filled to the brim. Service is great and quick, you don’t have to wait long for your food and the portions are more than plentiful. There is an eggs benedict special every Saturday and if you’re throwing an event or planning a meeting, Hathaway’s also does catering.

      3.   The Local Omnivore |Address: 10933 120 St NW| Phone: (780) 660-1051|

What started off as a food truck has evolved into a truly unique brick gem with some funky décor and a friendly staff that want you to have the best dining experience possible. The quality of food is amazing and the ingredients are locally sourced. The Local Omnivore specializes in cured and smoked meats, sandwiches and sides, and even has an in-house deli. You’ll leave this sandwich shop with a smile on your face, a full stomach, and a happy wallet, guaranteed.

      4.     Prairie Noodle Shop |Address: 10350 124 St NW #4| Phone: (780) 705-1777|

Leave your expectations for traditional ramen at the door when you walk into Prairie Noodle Shop. The menu is a wonderful assortment of locally inspired and sourced dishes, full of flavor that will leave you wanting more but completely stuffed. I recommend starting off with the charcoal salted edamame and ordering the smoked gouda miso, especially if you’re a fan of garlic. This venue is a tight squeeze but it makes for great conversation over a handcrafted soda or some Japanese sake.  Check it out for yourself but be warned there might be a bit of a line, it’s a popular spot.

      5.     Namaste India Restaurant and Café |Address: 10049 156 St NW| Phone: (780) 757-7550|

Namaste is a tragically hidden away Indian-cuisine haven with new owners, décor and phenomenal food. It’s great quality with large portions for an affordable price. Each dish has its own unique flavor and the menu has a large selection to choose from including four different types of naan bread (my favourite is the garlic), wraps and vegan options. If you like Vindaloo, an Indian curry dish, be prepared for some heat because Namaste doesn’t play around. They also deliver, which is free of charge if you order at $25 dollars worth of food. Trust me, you’ll love it.

      6.    Rostizado |Address: 10359 104 Street #102| Phone: (780) 761-0911|

From the proud owners of Edmonton’s Tres Carnales comes Rostizado! A 70-seat eatery and bar that combines the cooking and dining style of Mexico’s rosticerias with some modern spunk, located in the Mercer Building. This place has it all from a relaxing, urban décor to a wonderful staff knowledgeable about the entire menu to delicious, mouthwatering food. You’ll definitely feel like royalty dining at Rostizado as the prices are more on the expensive side but the experience is well worth it. Share a beautiful meat platter with your friends or treat yourself to a tasty Cemita (a Mexican sandwich that originates from the state of Puebla). Rostizado is vegetarian and vegan-friendly.
