Last fall The Edmonton Project took crowdsourcing to a new level, asking Edmontonians to submit their ideas for a grand city project. No idea was too big or small and submissions included everything from community gardens and gondalas to river valley saunas and new winter festivals.
In November, a panel of five influential Edmontonians shortlisted 10 projects from the submissions and Edmontonians were invited to vote for their favourite. If you’ve been waiting with bated breath to find out who’s taking top prize—you’re in luck, the wait is nearly over.
On March 6, the panelists will hear nine of the top project pitches at Project Edmonton's Idea Den. The event will be live streamed on YouTube beginning at 6 PM with the People’s Choice winner announced at 8:30. To find out which project has been chosen for further development, you’ll have to switch over to Facebook Live at 8:45 PM to catch the big announcement.
Did you know that two of the ideas competing in Project Edmonton started out as Pecha Kucha Night presentations? Read their stories here:
- How one presentation slide became a mission to bring communal comfort to Edmonton's river valley
- For Matt Roper, speaking at Pecha Kucha Night meant hitting two milestones
- And don't forget, PKN 30 is almost here! Get your tickets for Mar. 16 at NAIT.
So what’s next for The Edmonton Project? From the website, “After all the final ideas have been considered, the Idea Den will announce which idea will be brought to life! From there, it’s up to the design, engineering and construction team to make it a reality.”
With such a variety of ideas in the top 10, which one are you looking forward to seeing implemented in our city?
